Pueblo, CO – Southeast Colorado is preparing for a stormy weekend, with severe thunderstorms expected to impact the region starting Friday night. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns of potentially dangerous weather conditions, particularly in eastern Kiowa and Prowers counties.

According to the NWS, storms could intensify by late Friday, bringing gusty outflow winds reaching up to 70 mph and hail possibly as large as ping pong balls. Saturday poses the greatest risk for these severe storms, with the possibility of flash flooding in low-lying areas.

Residents are advised to stay alert, especially those in the far eastern plains, where severe weather conditions are most likely. There is also a small chance of a weak tornado or landspout forming during these storms.

As for the broader forecast, temperatures are expected to remain high, with Saturday’s high reaching 94°F. Sunday will see slightly cooler temperatures, with highs around 89°F and continued chances of storms. The rest of the week will bring moderate weather, with temperatures hovering in the mid-80s to low 90s and partly cloudy skies.
