Pueblo, Colo. – Scattered strong storms could roll across southeast Colorado this afternoon, bringing 60 mph wind gusts, small hail, and frequent lightning from the I-25 corridor eastward.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, storms will begin forming over the high terrain around midday Thursday, June 12, then shift into the plains during the afternoon and evening. Areas along and east of I-25—including Pueblo, La Junta, and Lamar—face a marginal risk for severe weather through late evening.
Main threats include wind gusts up to 60 mph, lightning, and pockets of small hail. Tornado chances remain low, but storm movement and intensity could cause quick changes. Travelers on U.S. 50, Highway 287, and I-25 should monitor conditions closely and be ready to seek shelter.
If you’re planning to be outdoors, stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive alerts. Charge devices now and avoid metal shelters during lightning.
Storm activity is expected to taper off after 9 p.m., but additional updates or warnings could be issued throughout the day as cells develop.
