Mesa, Ariz. – Drivers in the East Valley should brace for an early fall weather swing as dangerous heat continues before storms return late this week. With temperatures still peaking above 105 degrees, health officials urge residents to limit time outdoors, stay hydrated, and watch for heat-related illness.

According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, Mesa will climb to 105°F again on Tuesday and Thursday before conditions shift. By Thursday evening, a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms develops across the Valley, bringing a sharp break from the triple-digit stretch.

Cities across Maricopa County, including Mesa, Chandler, and Gilbert, could see brief downpours by late Thursday night, with stronger storms possible into Friday morning. U.S. 60 and Loop 202 may face slick roadways during the Friday commute if heavier cells develop. East Valley neighborhoods also face localized flooding risks, with rainfall amounts between a quarter- and half-inch possible.

Friday’s high will dip to 94°F, but humidity and unstable air could fuel storm activity through Saturday. Outdoor plans should include backup shelter, and residents are advised to secure loose objects ahead of gusty winds.

This first week of fall keeps the desert heat firmly in place, but the storm chances hint at the season’s first real pattern shift. More advisories may follow as activity ramps up late week.
