Tyler, TX – The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued Tornado Watch #624 for 21 East Texas counties, effective until 9 p.m. CDT Saturday, as severe thunderstorms move eastward across the region.
According to the NWS, the watch area includes Angelina, Bowie, Camp, Cass, Cherokee, Franklin, Gregg, Harrison, Marion, Morris, Nacogdoches, Panola, Red River, Rusk, Sabine, San Augustine, Shelby, Smith, Titus, Upshur, and Wood Counties.
Major cities and towns under the alert include Tyler, Longview, Nacogdoches, Lufkin, Marshall, Jefferson, and Texarkana.
Forecasters say storms could produce tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds up to 70 mph through this evening. The most intense storms are expected between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., especially along and east of the I-20 corridor.
Residents are urged to monitor local weather alerts, have multiple ways to receive warnings, and move to safe shelter immediately if a Tornado Warning is issued.
This Tornado Watch remains in effect until 9 p.m. CDT across the Ark-La-Tex region, including much of East Texas.
