MORRISTOWN, TN – The National Weather Service in Morristown reports that a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for parts of East Tennessee, including the Blount, Cocke, Sevier, Southeast Greene, and Unicoi Smoky Mountain counties, until 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Forecasters expect an additional 6 to 9 inches of snow at the highest elevations of the Smokies, with 4 to 6 inches possible elsewhere. Winds gusting up to 40 mph will create blowing snow, poor visibility, and slick road conditions, particularly overnight.

The NWS cautions that the storm will make travel very difficult, especially on mountain routes near Gatlinburg, Erwin, and Hartford, where snow may accumulate rapidly. The Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes could be significantly impacted by snow-covered and icy roads.

Residents and travelers are urged to delay nonessential travel and prepare for potential road closures in higher terrain. Those who must drive should carry flashlights, blankets, and food in case of emergencies.

This storm represents one of the season’s first major winter systems for the Great Smoky Mountains, signaling a sharp shift to early winter conditions across East Tennessee.
