Morristown, TN – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for portions of East Tennessee through 7 a.m. Tuesday, as heavy snowfall continues across the Smoky Mountain region, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Morristown.
The warning covers Blount, Sevier, Cocke, Southeast Greene, and Unicoi Counties, including popular mountain areas such as Gatlinburg, Cades Cove, Hartford, and Erwin. The NWS reports 4 to 8 inches of snow for most higher elevations, with localized totals of 10 to 15 inches possible near Mount LeConte and Newfound Gap.
According to forecasters, winds up to 40 mph could create blowing snow and reduced visibility, making travel very difficult—especially during the Monday morning and evening commutes. Drivers are urged to use extreme caution and avoid mountain roads if possible.
Officials recommend keeping an emergency kit with food, water, and flashlights in vehicles for those who must travel. Motorists can check the latest Tennessee road conditions by dialing 511.
Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing overnight, with hazardous conditions continuing into early Tuesday before gradual improvement later in the day.
