Bristol, TN – The National Weather Service in Morristown has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for northeast Tennessee and southwest Virginia, effective from 7 PM Thursday through Friday morning, as a wintry mix is expected to create slick and icy conditions across the region.

According to meteorologist CD, 1 to 3 inches of snow are forecast—mainly in elevations above 2,000 feet—with a light glaze of ice possible, especially in Johnson County, Tennessee. The advisory covers a wide area including Scott, Claiborne, Hawkins, Sullivan, Unicoi, and Carter Counties in Tennessee, and Lee, Wise, Russell, and Washington Counties in Virginia.

The NWS warns that slippery roads and reduced visibility could impact both the Thursday evening and Friday morning commutes, particularly on mountain routes such as US 421, I-26 near Erwin, and US 58 across the Virginia border.

Motorists are urged to slow down and use caution, especially on bridges and untreated roadways. For updated travel conditions, residents can call 511 or check state transportation websites.

Forecasters expect precipitation to taper off by mid-morning Friday, though some icy spots may persist as temperatures remain near freezing.
