Indianapolis, IN – A suspect is in custody after a late-night shooting in East Indianapolis left a woman and a baby hospitalized in critical condition. Authorities responded to a call around midnight, Saturday, about gunshots on the 6100 block of East 21st Street. Upon arrival, officers found the victims, an adult female and an infant, both suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims were quickly transported to a nearby hospital, where the baby remains in critical condition.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Jeremiah Eldridge, fled the scene in a vehicle before officers arrived. Detectives were able to identify Eldridge and immediately began using various investigative techniques to locate him. Eldridge later surrendered to police headquarters the same day.
The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will determine the final charges. Residents are urged to remain vigilant as the investigation continues. Eldridge is currently in custody on charges of attempted murder and should be presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
