Boston, MA – Strong winds are sweeping across New England and the Mid-Atlantic on Friday, with gusts reaching up to 55 mph in several states. A wind advisory remains in effect for much of the region, lasting until 7 p.m. EST.

According to the National Weather Service, the advisory covers portions of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. The strongest gusts, between 50 and 55 mph, are expected in coastal and higher-elevation areas, increasing the risk of power outages, downed trees, and hazardous travel conditions.

The highest wind speeds are being reported in parts of New York and New England, where sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph are common. In northern and western New York, Vermont, and western Massachusetts, wind gusts may exceed 50 mph, particularly in open areas and along ridges. Southern New England, including Boston and Hartford, is also experiencing strong winds, impacting commuters and air travel.

Officials urge residents to secure outdoor objects and prepare for possible power outages. Drivers, especially those operating high-profile vehicles, should use extra caution, as strong crosswinds can make driving hazardous.

The winds are expected to gradually weaken after sunset, but breezy conditions may persist into Saturday. Residents should stay informed by checking local forecasts and following safety recommendations from emergency officials.
