Philadelphia, PA – Much of the East Coast is now under a broad weather alert as multiple Alberta Clippers may bring pop-up snowstorms every other day from Saturday, December 7, through Friday, December 13, according to early weather guidance. The pattern could disrupt travel across New England, the Mid-Atlantic, and portions of the southern East Coast.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a persistent northwest-flow pattern will guide several fast-moving disturbances from the Great Lakes into the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. These systems—collectively known as the “Clipper Express”—often produce sudden snowfall, gusty winds, and rapid temperature drops.

The first system is expected Saturday night, with additional disturbances likely to arrive every 48 hours. Snow totals remain uncertain, but the NWS warns that quick bursts may lead to slick roads from Maine and Massachusetts down through Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, and portions of North Carolina.

Forecasters say the track of each clipper will determine where snow develops. Northern states—especially Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, and upstate New York—may see more frequent snow bands. Mid-Atlantic states such as New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware could experience quick-hitting bursts during commutes. Even coastal regions, including Long Island and southeastern New England, may see brief flakes depending on system strength.

Major travel routes—including I-95, I-84, I-90, and I-81—may face sudden reductions in visibility, blowing snow, and slick pavement throughout the December 7–13 window.

The NWS urges residents up and down the Eastern Seaboard to monitor frequent updates as Alberta Clippers often shift track and intensity with little warning.
