Washington, D.C. – A broad stretch of the U.S. East Coast from Maine to Georgia faces a 30% to 60% chance of winter storm impacts this weekend, with hazardous travel possible between 7 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Monday as a powerful coastal storm system develops and moves northward.

According to the National Weather Service Weather Prediction Center, a rapidly strengthening low-pressure system is expected to form along the Southeast coast Saturday before tracking north-northeast offshore of the Mid-Atlantic and New England through Sunday. The storm will interact with cold air entrenched across much of the Eastern Seaboard, increasing the potential for widespread winter weather impacts.

Snow probabilities range from 30% along the southern and coastal edges of the system to 50%–60% across portions of the Mid-Atlantic and New England, particularly inland and interior areas. Impacts are possible along the Interstate 95 corridor, affecting major metropolitan regions from Richmond and Washington to New York City and Boston, as well as coastal and inland communities farther south and north.

Travel conditions could deteriorate significantly from Saturday night into Sunday as precipitation intensity increases and winds strengthen. Gusty winds may lead to reduced visibility, blowing snow, and difficult driving conditions on highways, bridges, and untreated roads.

Forecasters caution that uncertainty remains regarding snowfall totals, precipitation type, and the precise track of the storm. Small shifts could result in major changes to local impacts, especially near the rain-snow line along the coast.

Residents across the East Coast are urged to closely monitor official forecasts and prepare for potential travel disruptions. Commuters, students, and weekend travelers along major highways should anticipate delays if the storm strengthens as projected.
