Philadelphia, PA – A Tornado Watch is in effect for more than 23 million residents across the Mid-Atlantic, including parts of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., until 12 a.m. Saturday, May 31.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, severe storms are expected to begin impacting the region after 8 p.m. Friday, bringing the threat of isolated tornadoes, wind gusts up to 65 mph, and hail the size of ping-pong balls. The Tornado Watch includes major cities such as Philadelphia, Baltimore, Richmond, and Virginia Beach.

Communities from Harrisburg to Atlantic City, and from York to Fredericksburg, are urged to remain weather-aware. Power outages and downed trees are possible, especially in areas with saturated soil. The storm system is expected to move quickly, heightening the risk of sudden changes in conditions.

Residents should secure outdoor items, have multiple ways to receive alerts, and avoid travel after dark. Schools and emergency services in the watch area are monitoring conditions closely.

The Tornado Watch remains active through midnight, with additional warnings possible as the evening progresses. Stay tuned for updates from the National Weather Service.
