Atlanta, GA – Severe thunderstorms are sweeping across the Southeast and East Coast today, bringing damaging winds, large hail, and a risk of isolated tornadoes from New Orleans to Baltimore.
According to the NOAA Storm Prediction Center, the threat will persist through Monday, with the most intense storms expected during the afternoon and early evening. Wind gusts could reach up to 70 mph in some areas, accompanied by hail potentially as large as tennis balls. A few tornadoes cannot be ruled out, especially in parts of Georgia, the Carolinas, and eastern Alabama.
The enhanced risk zone includes major metro areas such as Atlanta, Charlotte, Columbia, and Montgomery. Slight risk zones stretch further northeast into Richmond and Baltimore, with storm activity expected to arrive later in the day.
Residents are urged to remain weather-aware and monitor local alerts. Flash flooding may occur in low-lying areas, and downed trees or power lines could disrupt travel and utilities. The storms will advance west to east throughout the day.
The National Weather Service advises securing outdoor objects, charging devices, and having a shelter plan in place if warnings are issued in your area.
