Philadelphia, PA – A heightened wildfire risk is affecting large parts of the East Coast today due to dry conditions and gusty winds, with warnings issued across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York.

Across northeastern Pennsylvania, relative humidity levels are expected to drop to 20-25%, combined with winds gusting up to 20 mph. This increases the potential for rapid wildfire spread, especially in dry grasses and tree litter. The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources urges residents to avoid open burning and properly dispose of ignition sources like cigarette butts. A similar warning is in place for much of New Jersey, where the dry conditions will continue through the day.

In New Jersey, winds of 10-20 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph, will further elevate the fire risk. The state has advised against outdoor burning, as any fire could quickly spread out of control, especially in areas with dry vegetation.

In New York, an elevated fire risk has also been declared in several counties, with conditions similar to those in New Jersey. Residents are being urged to exercise extreme caution with any potential ignition sources.

Authorities advise residents to stay alert and follow all local fire safety guidelines to prevent dangerous fire outbreaks.
