Green Bay, WI – Residents across central and northeast Wisconsin should prepare for scattered thunderstorms today, with the strongest activity expected between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Green Bay.
The weather agency reports that storms will develop on and off throughout the day, but the evening hours pose the highest risk for severe weather. East-central Wisconsin, including cities such as Appleton, Green Bay, and Oshkosh, is expected to see the greatest impact.
According to the NWS, hazards from stronger storms may include wind gusts between 40 and 60 mph, hail up to one inch in diameter, and localized heavy rainfall. While the risk of tornadoes remains low, forecasters caution that even brief severe storms could disrupt travel and outdoor activities.
The agency’s outlook map highlights a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms across much of the region, with the highest confidence centered in east-central counties. Officials urge residents to monitor local forecasts and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions during the late afternoon and early evening commute hours.
Scattered showers and storms may continue intermittently throughout the day, but forecasters emphasize that the primary concern is the late-day storm window. “Strongest storms are anticipated between 4–8 p.m.,” the NWS posted in an early-morning update.
Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items, remain weather-aware, and report any severe weather impacts to local authorities.
