Orlando, Fla. – Strong thunderstorms packing winds up to 55 mph are expected to roll through East Central Florida between 3 and 9 p.m. Sunday, with localized flooding and dangerous lightning posing risks across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, a Level 1 severe weather risk has been issued for cities from Daytona Beach to Stuart, including Orlando, Titusville, and Melbourne. The primary threats include gusty winds between 45–55 mph, a 5% chance of gusts over 60 mph, and pockets of torrential rain that could lead to flash flooding.

Storm activity will be fueled by deep tropical moisture moving in through Tuesday, with daily rain chances near 80%. Rain totals may reach 1.5 to 4 inches by Tuesday, with higher amounts possible in areas that see repeated downpours. Urban streets, low-lying neighborhoods, and small streams in counties like Brevard, Volusia, and Orange are especially vulnerable.

Travelers should avoid flooded roadways and be ready for sudden downpours. Those outdoors should move indoors at the first sound of thunder. Lightning is expected to be frequent and potentially dangerous.

Additional rounds of rain and storms are expected Monday and Tuesday, with flood advisories possible if rainfall rates persist.
