MELBOURNE — East Central Florida is facing a combination of cold morning conditions and marine hazards today, according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne. A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM Friday, while a moderate risk of rip currents continues at all Atlantic beaches, including the Daytona Beach, Space Coast, and Treasure Coast.
Morning temperatures across interior portions of East Central Florida have fallen into the low to mid-30s, with wind chills ranging from 25 to 30 degrees. Areas along and west of Interstate 95 and US-1, including inland Volusia, Orange, Osceola, and Brevard counties, are experiencing the coldest conditions. Residents are urged to dress in layers, bring pets indoors, and limit extended outdoor exposure during the early morning hours.
Despite the cold start, conditions will improve by afternoon as highs rebound into the lower to mid-60s under sunny skies. However, dry and breezy conditions will persist, creating sensitive fire weather concerns, especially away from the immediate coast.
Along the beaches, a moderate rip current risk is expected throughout the day. Onshore winds and 2 to 4 foot surf are producing hazardous swimming conditions along State Road A1A, from Volusia County south through Brevard and Indian River counties. The NWS strongly advises swimmers to enter the water only near staffed lifeguard towers and to avoid swimming altogether if unsure of conditions. Rip currents can occur even on sunny, calm-appearing days.
Looking ahead, Saturday and Sunday will bring near-normal daytime temperatures with cooler nights inland and milder conditions along the coast. Beachgoers and travelers are encouraged to stay weather-aware and continue monitoring local advisories before heading outdoors or into the water.
