Melbourne, Florida – A blistering start to August is gripping East Central Florida, where heat index values are soaring up to 110°F Friday under an active Heat Advisory.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, the advisory is in effect from noon to 7 p.m. Friday for Greater Orlando, the Space Coast, Treasure Coast, and surrounding inland areas including Leesburg, Kissimmee, and Okeechobee. Highs will range from 93° to 96°, with humidity pushing “feels-like” temperatures into extreme territory.
Orlando, Daytona Beach, and Fort Pierce are all under major to extreme heat risk, prompting health officials to urge residents to avoid outdoor activities, stay hydrated, and remain in air-conditioned spaces. Temperatures are expected to remain dangerously high through at least Tuesday, with little overnight relief due to elevated lows.
Kenansville, Sanford, and Vero Beach are also facing multi-day heat risks, putting vulnerable populations—especially the elderly and young children—at higher risk of heat-related illness. Drivers are reminded to never leave kids or pets in parked vehicles, even for a short time.
Showers and storms may bring slight relief by late afternoon, especially along the sea breeze front, but oppressive heat will return daily. Additional advisories may be issued if conditions persist into next week.
