Orlando, Florida – Lightning, downpours, and dangerous rip currents are expected to dominate Central Florida’s weather through Sunday night, as a wave of unsettled weather brings repeated rounds of thunderstorms and heavy rain to the region. According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, rain chances will range from 50–60% along the coast to 70–80% across interior cities including Orlando, Leesburg, and Kissimmee, with the highest rainfall amounts and flooding potential over inland areas.
Showers and storms will be most frequent along the coast overnight and during the morning, while the interior will see activity ramp up each afternoon and evening. Some storms may produce 1–3 inches of rain, gusty winds, frequent lightning, and localized flooding, especially where storms repeatedly move over the same spots. Afternoon highs will stay steamy, reaching the upper 80s to low 90s, but humidity will push heat indices as high as 105°F.
A high risk of life-threatening rip currents is in effect at all area beaches, making ocean swimming extremely hazardous. Residents and visitors are strongly urged to stay out of the surf and heed all posted warnings. Flooding of poorly drained streets and urban areas remains a concern where downpours persist. Stay weather-aware, charge mobile devices, and avoid non-essential travel during heavy storms. Additional advisories may be issued if conditions worsen.
