Orlando, Florida – Sweltering heat and scattered storms are expected to impact East Central Florida today, with the most intense weather focused west of I-95 in places like Leesburg, Kissimmee, and Sanford.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, Friday’s highs will climb into the upper 80s to low 90s across the region, with heat index values peaking between 100 and 103 degrees. Rain and storm chances are highest—up to 50%—for interior cities, while coastal locations like Melbourne, Daytona Beach, and Vero Beach face lower chances near 30%.

Orlando, Sanford, and Leesburg are all forecast to reach 92°F with afternoon thunderstorms potentially disrupting travel. Drivers should be cautious of ponding on roads and reduced visibility during downpours. Meanwhile, beachgoers in Port St. Lucie and Daytona Beach should be aware of a moderate risk of rip currents at all Atlantic beaches today.

Residents should limit outdoor activity during peak heat hours, stay hydrated, and check in on vulnerable individuals.

Hot and stormy conditions may linger into the weekend. The National Weather Service will issue additional updates if any severe weather develops.
