Melbourne, FL – Residents across Florida’s east coast are under a Flood Watch through Sunday morning as forecasters warn of heavy rainfall and possible flooding.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, the Flood Watch covers Volusia, Brevard, Indian River, St. Lucie, and Martin counties, including coastal and inland communities such as Daytona Beach, Vero Beach, Port St. Lucie, Melbourne, and Stuart.

Forecasters said persistent onshore winds combined with a nearby disturbance will bring numerous showers and isolated thunderstorms through the end of the week. Rainfall totals may cause excessive runoff, leading to flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and low-lying areas.

The Flood Watch will remain in effect until Sunday, October 5, at 8 a.m. Authorities are urging residents in flood-prone areas to monitor conditions closely and prepare to take action if Flood Warnings are issued.

This weather system could also create dangerous travel conditions, especially in areas where roads are prone to water pooling. Officials advise drivers to use caution and never attempt to cross flooded roadways.
