Orlando, Fla. – Abnormally dry and drought-stricken conditions will grip east central Florida through Friday, but increasing chances for rain and thunderstorms this weekend could bring some much-needed relief.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, areas such as Orlando, Daytona Beach, and Melbourne remain under moderate to extreme drought, with mostly dry weather holding through the workweek. Precipitation chances begin climbing Saturday, with probabilities reaching 50–70% by Sunday and Monday across much of the region.

Daytona Beach, Titusville, and Sanford are among the cities with a 70% or higher chance of rain by May 6, with isolated thunderstorms also likely. The potential for measurable rainfall could lead to minor improvements in drought conditions, especially in areas that have seen weeks of dryness.

Residents are encouraged to monitor local alerts, especially for lightning hazards. Outdoor activities this weekend may be impacted, and those with plans should remain weather-aware. Though not widespread, downpours may cause brief flooding in poorly drained areas.

Rain chances linger into early next week, offering a narrow window for drought improvement. The NWS will continue to update precipitation outlooks as new data becomes available.
