Melbourne, Fla. – Breezy winds up to 25 mph and a moderate rip current risk will keep beachgoers on alert across East Central Florida Friday, while storm chances remain low inland.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, most areas will stay dry through Friday with only 10 to 20 percent rain chances inland and up to 40 percent along the Treasure Coast. Winds will make surf hazardous from Daytona Beach to Vero Beach, with lifeguards urging swimmers to stay in guarded areas.
By Saturday and Sunday, isolated afternoon thunderstorms will return with lightning posing the greatest danger for outdoor events. Moisture builds further Monday, raising storm coverage to 50 percent for Orlando, Daytona Beach, Melbourne and Fort Pierce. Tuesday trends slightly hotter, with highs near 91 degrees and continued storm activity.
The main threats include dangerous rip currents, frequent lightning, and brief downpours. Boaters should also use caution in breezy onshore flow, while residents are encouraged to keep devices charged and delay outdoor plans when storms approach.
Storm chances remain in the forecast into midweek, with daily rip current risks continuing at area beaches.
