A tropical disturbance in the Atlantic has an 80% chance of development within the next seven days, according to the National Hurricane Center. The system, currently east of the Caribbean, is moving toward The Bahamas and could bring impacts to East Central Florida later this week.

Forecasters say it is still too early to determine what direct effects, if any, the system may have on Florida. However, the National Weather Service in Melbourne cautioned that poor beach and boating conditions are possible regardless of the storm’s development.

The disturbance is being monitored closely as it tracks northwest. While confidence in formation is high, forecasters stress that the path and strength remain uncertain. Should the system develop into a tropical storm, more defined impacts could be felt across coastal areas, including Brevard, Volusia, and Indian River counties.

“Residents and visitors should take this opportunity to ensure their emergency plan is ready,” the Weather Service advised in a Wednesday morning update. Emergency managers recommend reviewing supplies, updating storm kits, and monitoring official forecasts over the coming days.

The seven-day outlook shows the disturbance could organize near The Bahamas before potentially approaching Florida waters. Local officials remind the public that September remains peak hurricane season for the Atlantic.

Updates will continue as forecasts become more refined. For now, beachgoers and boaters in East Central Florida should expect rough surf, rip currents, and potential small craft advisories as the week progresses.
