Alamo, CA – A minor earthquake struck just outside of San Francisco early Tuesday morning, prompting reports of light shaking.
The 2.7 magnitude quake occurred at 1 km south-southwest of Alamo, California, at 1:08 a.m. local time. The earthquake struck at a depth of 14.4 kilometers, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

Earthquakes of this magnitude rarely cause damage but serve as reminders of the region’s seismic activity. Alamo sits near several fault lines, including the Calaveras Fault. Geologists monitor these areas for larger seismic events.
Officials encourage residents to prepare for emergencies by securing heavy furniture and keeping earthquake kits ready. Anyone who felt the quake should submit their experiences through the USGS website to assist in scientific research.
Bay Area residents remain on alert as small tremors are common in the region. No injuries or damage were reported as of Tuesday morning.
