Providence, Ky. – Half-dollar-sized hail and 60 mph wind gusts slammed parts of western Kentucky early Friday as a fast-moving severe thunderstorm tracked through Hopkins and Webster counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, the warning remains in effect until 4:45 a.m. CDT. At 4:15 a.m., radar showed the storm near Clay, moving northeast at 60 mph. The primary threats include hail damage to vehicles and wind damage to roofs, trees, and power lines.
Communities impacted include Providence, Dixon, Sebree, Clay, Slaughters, and Wheatcroft. The storm is also affecting travel along Interstate 69 between mile markers 124 and 137, where reduced visibility and debris on the roadway may pose hazards.
Residents are urged to shelter in an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Stay off the roads if possible and secure outdoor items that could become airborne.
This warning comes amid an active severe weather pattern across the Ohio Valley. Additional alerts may be issued if storm activity intensifies or expands into neighboring counties.
