Greenville–Spartanburg, SC — A spotty wintry mix is affecting portions of the western Carolinas early this morning, with light freezing rain still possible through 9–10 AM, according to the National Weather Service in Greenville–Spartanburg.

Temperatures remain below freezing in parts of the Appalachians and foothills, creating the potential for a light glaze of ice where freezing rain develops. Light sleet may also occur in isolated areas. Precipitation is expected to gradually diminish in intensity through late morning as temperatures rise above freezing and moisture exits the region.

Hazards and Travel Impacts

Even small amounts of ice can create hazardous travel conditions, particularly on bridges, elevated roadways, and untreated surfaces. Slick patches may develop, and drivers are urged to leave extra space between vehicles and reduce speed.

Timing

The wintry mix should come to an end by 9–10 AM EST, either as temperatures warm or precipitation tapers off.
