FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Northern Indiana will go from late-summer warmth to a taste of early winter this week, as the season’s first frost could arrive by Wednesday morning. A cold front moving through tonight will bring widespread rain and a few thunderstorms before much cooler air sweeps in behind it.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, scattered thunderstorms are expected late tonight with an 80% chance of rain across Allen, DeKalb, and LaGrange counties. While no severe weather is anticipated, heavier downpours and lightning could affect overnight travel.

By Tuesday, highs will struggle to reach the low 70s before dropping into the 40s overnight. Skies will clear by Wednesday, setting the stage for the first patchy frost of the season as lows dip into the upper 30s. Gardeners and farmers are encouraged to cover sensitive vegetation and prepare for the chilly mornings ahead.

Warmer, sunny weather returns by Thursday, though another cool night is possible before temperatures rebound into the upper 60s by Friday.
