Green Bay, Wisconsin – Slippery roads and icy sidewalks are creating hazardous travel conditions across northern Wisconsin early Wednesday as snow, sleet and light ice continue through the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon CST Wednesday for Vilas, Forest, Florence, Northern Marinette, Oneida, Langlade and Northern Oconto counties. Communities including Eagle River, Rhinelander, Antigo, Crandon, Niagara and Wausaukee could see up to 3 inches of additional snow and sleet in the far north, with around 1 inch farther south. Ice accumulation of less than one tenth of an inch is expected in Vilas, Forest and Florence counties, with up to one tenth of an inch possible in Oneida and Langlade counties. Winds are gusting between 35 and 40 mph.

Untreated roads, bridges and overpasses are becoming slick, especially along Highways 45, 51 and 8. The Wednesday morning commute is expected to be the most impacted period, with patchy ice increasing the risk of spinouts and falls.

Drivers should slow down, allow extra stopping distance and check Wisconsin 511 for the latest road conditions. Residents are urged to use caution on stairs and sidewalks as icy patches linger. The advisory remains in effect until noon, and lingering slick spots may persist into the afternoon as temperatures hover near freezing.
