Troopers with the Troop K Community Stabilization Unit conducted the stop around 3:35 p.m. on November 17, 2025, along Main Street in Poughkeepsie for alleged traffic law violations. Police say the vehicle briefly complied before fleeing, sideswiping one car and forcing it into another occupied vehicle before coming to rest.

The driver, identified as Shamar Parker, 39, of Poughkeepsie, was taken into custody without further incident. No injuries were reported among the other drivers involved.

According to investigators, a probable cause search revealed a stolen 9MM handgun, narcotics, and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. Parker was charged with multiple felonies, including criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of stolen property, and unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle.

Parker was arraigned before the City of Poughkeepsie Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Justice and Transition Center.
