Lombard, IL – Both the northbound and southbound lanes of Illinois Route 53 in Lombard are currently closed between Madison Street and St. Charles Road due to an emergency response for a vehicular accident, officials announced Monday.
According to the Village of Lombard, emergency crews are on scene managing the incident and working to clear the roadway. The closure is affecting traffic in both directions along the busy stretch of IL Rt. 53, which connects several DuPage County communities.
Drivers are being advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while the emergency response continues. No official timeline has been released for when the road will reopen.
Motorists traveling through Lombard, Villa Park, and Glen Ellyn should expect delays and use nearby routes such as Main Street or Finley Road as detours. Officials said an update will be provided once IL Rt. 53 has fully reopened.
