Oak Brook, IL – Hundreds of rubber ducks will hit the water this Saturday in DuPage County, as the Friends of the Forest Preserve District bring back their signature “Duck Race” at Fullersburg Woods Forest Preserve. Participants have the chance to win up to $500 while supporting local conservation efforts.
According to the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, the race will take place on Saturday, August 9, at 3 p.m. along the recently restored Salt Creek near the Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center in Oak Brook. As of this week, fewer than 100 ducks out of the 250 available remain for purchase.
Ducks are priced at $25 each, or five for $100. Each rubber duck will be tagged with a number tied to the purchaser, and prizes will be awarded to the first three ducks to cross the finish line. The first-place winner will receive a $500 cash prize, followed by a symbolic Blanding’s turtle adoption valued at $100 for second place, and Forest Preserve swag worth $25 for third place.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Forest Preserve District’s efforts to restore native habitats and protect wildlife in DuPage County. Winners do not need to be present and will be contacted following the event. All sales must be completed online by 3 p.m. on Thursday, August 8, or until all ducks are claimed.
The duck race is part of Fullersburg Days, a free family-friendly event running August 9 and 10 from 1 to 4 p.m., featuring hands-on nature activities and old-fashioned fun for all ages.
