DuPage County, IL – A Chicago man is facing theft charges after authorities say he stole a delivery package from the front porch of a Hinsdale home earlier this month, highlighting ongoing concerns over porch piracy across suburban communities.
According to DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and the Hinsdale Police Department, Andres Martinez Osorio, 35, of the 3900 block of Ontario Street in Chicago, has been charged in connection with a theft that occurred at a home in the 600 block of South Lincoln Street.
Prosecutors allege Martinez Osorio stole a package valued at approximately $795 that contained merchandise from Nordstrom. The theft allegedly occurred on December 10, 2025, at about 2:57 a.m., following an investigation into multiple reports of stolen deliveries from residents’ homes in Hinsdale.
Police said detectives identified Martinez Osorio as a suspect through that broader investigation. He was arrested, charged, and later released on his own recognizance the same day, according to authorities.
“When someone steals deliveries from a home as alleged in this case, they are victimizing not just the immediate victim but the entire community,” Berlin said in a statement. He added that, according to security company SafeWise, package thefts are estimated to cost the Chicago metropolitan area approximately $254 million in losses during 2025.
Officials urged residents to take precautions, including installing security cameras, improving outdoor lighting, and using secure lockboxes that require a code for access. Authorities also encouraged neighbors to watch for packages on nearby porches and to report suspicious activity immediately.
Hinsdale Police Chief Brian King credited investigators and patrol officers for their work in identifying the suspect and emphasized that porch theft cases will continue to be aggressively pursued in the village.
Martinez Osorio’s next court appearance is scheduled for January 6, 2026, in front of Judge Ann Celine O’Hallaren Walsh.
Authorities reminded the public that the complaint contains only charges and that Martinez Osorio is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
