Glen Ellyn, IL – Police in Glen Ellyn are investigating after a student reported being approached by a motorist while walking to school Friday morning.
According to the Glen Ellyn Police Department, the incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. near the intersection of Ellyn Avenue and Sheehan Avenue. Authorities said a man pulled up to the student in a black Toyota sedan with passenger-side damage, opened the passenger door and allegedly asked if the student wanted a ride. The student, who did not know the driver, declined and immediately told a parent, who contacted 911.
Police described the driver as a white male with an average build, dark hair and a “heavy” accent. The vehicle was last seen traveling northbound from the area. Officers said they are conducting extra patrols around schools and working to identify the suspect and vehicle.
Authorities are asking anyone with information or video footage to call 911. Police also commended the student for refusing the ride and promptly alerting a parent.
“This student did exactly the right thing by reporting the encounter without delay,” the department said in a statement posted online.
No injuries were reported in connection with the encounter. Officers have not released further details.
