DuPage County, IL – A Carol Stream man accused of aggravated DUI and leading police on a high-speed chase through multiple neighborhoods will remain in custody following a judge’s decision Friday morning.
According to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, Judge Joshua Dieden granted prosecutors’ motion to detain Fernando Jimenez, 44, of Carol Stream, after he was charged with aggravated DUI (fifth offense), aggravated fleeing and eluding, driving while license suspended, and several petty traffic violations.
Authorities say the incident began around 8:57 p.m. on October 10, 2025, when a Carol Stream officer allegedly spotted a silver Ford Bronco make an improper turn on E. St. Charles Road. The officer reportedly activated his emergency lights and observed signs of intoxication after stopping the driver.
As police attempted to make an arrest, Jimenez allegedly sped off, reaching speeds of up to 104 mph in a 40-mph zone near President Street, running a red light, and weaving through residential streets. The pursuit ended when officers found the suspect outside his apartment complex, where he was taken into custody.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said the defendant “not only chose to drive after drinking but made the decision to flee, placing innocent lives at risk.” Carol Stream Police Chief Don Cummings called the incident “a reckless attempt to avoid arrest.”
Jimenez’s next court appearance is set for November 3, 2025, before Judge Brian Telander.
