Naperville, IL – A Dupage County man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for a DUI crash that resulted in the deaths of three individuals in October 2021. Brendan Wydajewski, 24 of Naperville, faced Judge Ann Celine O’Hallaren Walsh, who accepted his guilty plea to three counts of Aggravated DUI Causing Death. This tragic incident has sparked discussions on the dire consequences of drunk driving.

According to DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin, the crash occurred early in the morning on October 30, 2021, when police responded to the horrific scene at Warrenville Road and Corporate West Drive. The collision was so severe that one of the vehicles was found cut in half. Victims Andrew Purtill, 46, Graciela Leanos, 21, and Geovanny Alvarez, 22, lost their lives as a result of Wydajewski’s actions, who was found to have been driving at 122 mph with a BAC of .147.

State’s Attorney Berlin emphasized the preventable nature of DUI incidents, remarking on the irreversible loss and mourning endured by the victims’ families. Wydajewski will need to serve 85% of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
