Glendale Heights, IL – A DuPage County man is facing felony charges after a bullet allegedly fired inside his apartment passed through a wall and into a neighboring unit, narrowly missing several sleeping children, including a four-year-old.

According to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, 34-year-old Kyle Lucki of the 600 block of East Fullerton Avenue was charged with one count of reckless discharge of a firearm, a Class 4 felony. Lucki appeared in First Appearance Court Thursday morning, where a judge denied the State’s request to detain him pre-trial and released him with conditions, including no contact with the victims and surrendering all firearms to Glendale Heights police.

Authorities say the incident occurred Wednesday night around 10:38 p.m., when officers responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired at an apartment complex in Glendale Heights, located in DuPage County west of Chicago.

According to police, a resident reported that a bullet traveled through the wall of her apartment and into a bedroom where four children, ranging in age from four to fourteen, were sleeping. Investigators allege the bullet came from the adjacent apartment occupied by Lucki.

Police say officers made contact with Lucki and conducted a protective sweep, during which two pistols were allegedly located. Investigators allege Lucki was handling a CZE-09 9mm handgun when it discharged, sending a round through the wall.

Authorities further allege one child was lying directly beneath the entry point of the bullet and had drywall dust on their neck. The bullet reportedly lodged in a mattress next to the youngest child.

At the time of the alleged incident, Lucki possessed a valid Illinois Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card and concealed carry license, according to officials.

Lucki’s next court date is scheduled for February 2, 2026, before Judge Brian Telander.

Members of the public are reminded that charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
