Wheaton, IL – A Chicago man accused of punching another man and leading Oak Brook police on a high-speed chase that reached 72 mph has been ordered held pre-trial, according to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Authorities said Ulises Mejia, 26, allegedly struck a man in the face on October 29, 2025, before fleeing from police in a Chrysler 300. According to prosecutors, Mejia drove onto the wrong side of the road, ran multiple red lights, and crashed head-on into two vehicles near Route 83 and 16th Street before fleeing on foot.
He was arrested about 150 meters away at a restaurant, officials said. No injuries were reported among other drivers involved in the crash. Investigators allege the altercation began outside an Old Navy store, where Mejia’s former partner was waiting to be picked up by a new boyfriend.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said Mejia’s actions showed a “complete disregard for public safety,” especially as the busy holiday season approaches. Oak Brook Police Chief Brian Strockis commended officers for safely ending the chase and taking the suspect into custody.
Mejia faces two felony counts of aggravated fleeing, as well as battery, reckless driving, and leaving the scene of an accident. His next court appearance is set for November 24, 2025, before Judge Brian Telander.
