A harmful blue-green algae bloom has been confirmed at Rice Lake within the Danada Forest Preserve. This algae poses a risk to pets, children, and individuals with weak immune systems if they ingest or inhale contaminated water.
According to the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, residents should avoid contact with the algae and keep pets away from the water. If contact occurs, thoroughly wash skin or pet fur immediately.
Staff will continue to monitor water conditions. Algal blooms, which can appear blue, green, or brown, should be reported to forest@dupageforest.org. More information is available here.
