Glendale Heights, IL – A Glendale Heights man is being held in custody following allegations he drove under the influence and fled police during a high-speed chase on a moped through DuPage County.

According to the DuPage County Stateโ€™s Attorneyโ€™s Office, the incident unfolded early Thursday morning around 12:49 a.m. at a gas station on Army Trail Road in Bloomingdale. Authorities allege that officers responded to a panic alarm and encountered a man, later identified as 34-year-old Dillon Burgett, who appeared to be intoxicated and causing a disturbance inside the store.

Prosecutors allege Burgett ignored officersโ€™ commands, mounted a moped and fled eastbound on Army Trail Road, initiating a pursuit. The defendant allegedly continued fleeing southbound on Interstate 355, reaching speeds near 85 mph as officers followed with emergency lights activated. Authorities further allege Burgett exited onto North Avenue, weaving through traffic at a high rate of speed before losing control of the moped and crashing into a passing vehicle.

Burgett was taken into custody at the scene. Officials allege his blood alcohol concentration measured .206, more than twice the legal limit.

He has been charged with two counts of aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer, a Class 4 felony, along with misdemeanor DUI charges and multiple traffic offenses. A judge granted the Stateโ€™s motion to deny pretrial release, keeping Burgett detained.

DuPage County Stateโ€™s Attorney Robert Berlin said the alleged actions endangered the public, while Bloomingdale Police credited coordinated efforts for safely apprehending the suspect. No injuries were reported during the incident.

Burgett is scheduled to appear in court on May 4.
