Aurora, IL – An Aurora man will spend nine years in state prison for a fatal DUI crash that killed a woman in 2023, following a sentencing decision handed down today in DuPage County.

According to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, Joshua Crye, 34, was sentenced to nine years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to one count of aggravated DUI causing death, a Class 2 felony. Prosecutors had requested the maximum allowable sentence of 14 years.

Court records show Crye entered a blind guilty plea on August 5, 2025, before Judge Ann Celine O’Hallaren Walsh, who imposed the sentence. Crye will be required to serve at least 85% of the sentence before becoming eligible for parole.

Authorities said the crash occurred on April 6, 2023, at approximately 8:52 p.m., on Eola Road in Aurora, DuPage County. Aurora police responded to a three-vehicle collision after Crye allegedly drove southbound at roughly 85 miles per hour, crossed the raised center median, and entered northbound lanes.

According to investigators, Crye’s Ford Escape struck a vehicle driven by Nicole Dickerson, then continued into a second northbound vehicle. All occupants were transported to a local hospital. Dickerson later died on April 10, 2023, from injuries sustained in the crash.

Prosecutors said Crye’s blood-alcohol concentration at the time of the crash measured 0.183, more than twice the legal limit.

Crye was taken into custody on June 12, 2023, after a $2 million arrest warrant was issued. He has remained in the DuPage County Jail since that time.

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin emphasized that DUI crashes are preventable and urged drivers to seek alternative transportation when impaired.
