DuPage County, IL – A Chicago woman accused of causing a violent DUI crash in Lombard that injured an entire family — including severely injuring a 10-year-old boy — was granted pretrial release Tuesday despite objections from prosecutors.

According to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, Judge Joshua Dieden denied the State’s request to detain Jaquelin Onofre Reyes, 27, following her first court appearance. Reyes is charged with four counts of Aggravated DUI – Great Bodily Harm, a Class 4 felony.

Judge Dieden noted in his ruling that while the allegations are “tragic,” the court must determine whether conditions can mitigate any danger posed by the defendant. Reyes was released under strict conditions, including no alcohol or drug use, SCRAM electronic monitoring, and no contact with the victims.

According to Lombard police, the crash occurred Monday, December 23, just after noon, near Route 53 and the Illinois Prairie Path. Authorities allege Reyes was driving a Hummer SUV southbound on Route 53 when she entered the northbound lanes to pass traffic. While attempting to re-enter her lane, she allegedly struck another vehicle, crossed back into oncoming traffic, and collided with an Infiniti SUV carrying a family of four, including two children ages seven and ten.

All four family members were transported to a local hospital. The 10-year-old boy suffered extensive severe injuries and has since been transferred to another medical facility for additional surgery.

Investigators reported finding two open alcoholic beverages inside Reyes’ vehicle. Authorities further allege her blood alcohol concentration was .238, nearly three times the legal limit.

State’s Attorney Robert Berlin called the incident “100% avoidable” and urged drivers to avoid impaired driving, especially during the holiday season.

Reyes is scheduled to return to court on January 20, 2026, before Judge Ann Celine O’Hallaren Walsh.

Authorities emphasize that the charges are allegations, and Reyes is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
