Naperville, IL – A Chicago man has been denied pre-trial release after Naperville police, acting on a federal tip, allegedly caught him transporting illegal drugs aboard a train from California, officials said Thursday.

According to a joint statement from the Naperville Police Department and DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, officers arrested Brock Okennard, 45, on Nov. 8 after he exited an Amtrak train at the Naperville depot on 4th Avenue. Authorities allege Okennard was carrying methamphetamine, cocaine, and nearly 1,000 grams of cannabis in his backpack.

Officials said Okennard resisted arrest when approached by officers who were aware of outstanding warrants for his arrest. Three officers sustained minor injuries during the scuffle and were later treated and released from a local hospital.

Following a search of his belongings, investigators allegedly found 153.6 grams of a pink substance testing positive for meth and cocaine. DuPage County prosecutors charged Okennard with multiple felony counts, including possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine and manufacture/delivery of cannabis.

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin praised the collaboration between local and federal law enforcement, noting this was the second major narcotics case linked to California shipments in one week. Okennard’s next court date is scheduled for Dec. 8, 2025, before Judge Brian Telander.

Authorities emphasized that all charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
