DuPage County, IL – Crime Alert: Courthouse Struggle Sends 3 Deputies to Hospital Friday

Wheaton, IL – A courthouse altercation in DuPage County left three sheriff’s deputies hospitalized Friday morning following a struggle with a defendant, according to officials.

The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office reported the incident occurred at approximately 10:15 a.m. inside the county courthouse in Wheaton. After a court hearing, a male subject was ordered to undergo an evaluation and attempted to leave the building. Deputies stopped him near an escalator landing, where he allegedly resisted.

According to the sheriff’s office, the man struck a deputy, causing both to fall down the escalator. During the struggle, several deputies were injured, and three were transported to a local hospital. Their current conditions have not been released.

The suspect was taken into custody without further incident and is being screened by the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office. Authorities emphasized there is no danger to the public.
