DuPage County, IL – A Chicago man has been ordered detained after authorities say he allegedly led police on a high-speed chase across multiple highways with a 4-year-old child in the back seat earlier this week.
According to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, the incident began around 6 p.m. on November 12, 2025, when an Oak Brook police officer observed a Chevrolet Impala with suspended license plates parked in a handicapped space outside Nordstrom at Oakbrook Center. When the officer activated emergency lights, the driver allegedly fled the parking lot, nearly striking another vehicle before entering traffic at Spring Road and Harger Road.
Police say the driver allegedly accelerated onto Roosevelt Road and then I-290, reaching speeds over 65 mph in a 55 mph zone while weaving between lanes and using the shoulder. The chase continued through multiple interchanges, with Cook County Sheriff’s Office helicopter crews providing air support as the Impala allegedly exited to city streets near 59th Street and ultimately came to a stop.
According to officials, once the vehicle slowed, the driver waved the officer over and was taken into custody. A 4-year-old child was found in the back seat.
Prosecutors charged the man with one count of aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer and one count of misdemeanor endangering the health or life of a child. Officials emphasized that all charges remain allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The next court appearance is scheduled for December 8, 2025.
