DuPage County, IL – A DuPage County judge has denied pretrial release for a Plainfield man after prosecutors say he was found in possession of a loaded handgun during a late-night traffic stop in Naperville.
According to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, Judge Joshua Dieden granted the State’s motion on Saturday, ruling that Deion Kidd, 30, should remain detained following his first court appearance earlier that morning.
Kidd is charged with one count of Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon – Previous Felony Conviction, a Class 2 felony, along with an additional Class 4 felony weapons charge. He also faces multiple misdemeanor and petty offenses, including resisting a police officer and transportation or possession of open alcohol by a driver, according to prosecutors.
According to Naperville police, officers were patrolling eastbound on Odyssey Court near Illinois Route 59 at approximately 11:20 p.m. Friday when they observed a vehicle make an improper lane movement after turning onto Route 59. Officers also reported difficulty seeing the driver due to what they believed were illegally dark window tints.
Police allege that while stopped at Diehl Road, the driver made sudden movements toward the glovebox and rear passenger floorboard, prompting officers to initiate a traffic stop. During the encounter, officers reportedly observed a clear cup containing a liquid that smelled of alcohol on the vehicle’s floorboard.
After Kidd exited the vehicle, police allege he resisted as officers attempted to access the glovebox. Once he was handcuffed, officers allegedly recovered a loaded Glock 46 from the glovebox. A bottle of tequila was also allegedly found in the trunk area, which police say was accessible from the back seat.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said the case underscores ongoing public safety concerns involving unlawful firearm possession.
Kidd’s next court appearance is scheduled for February 2, 2026, before Judge Mia McPherson.
Members of the public are reminded that these are allegations. Kidd is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
