Elmhurst, IL – A Villa Park man accused of brandishing a loaded handgun at an Elmhurst resident outside their home has been ordered held without bond, authorities announced Saturday.
According to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, 29-year-old Devontae Allmon was arrested September 26 after a homeowner reported finding him crouching near a vehicle outside the victim’s residence. When confronted, Allmon allegedly pulled out a black handgun, racked it, and threatened the victim before the victim retreated inside and called 911.
Elmhurst police officers located Allmon about a block away, where he allegedly ignored commands, fled, and was later taken into custody wearing a bulletproof vest. Officers say they recovered a loaded .40 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun at the scene. Investigators also allege that Allmon attempted to enter multiple vehicles in the area.
Allmon faces multiple felony charges, including possession of a firearm by a repeat offender, unlawful possession of a weapon while wearing body armor, and burglary to a motor vehicle. He is also charged with resisting police and attempted criminal trespass.
“This type of behavior not only terrifies the immediate victims, but also threatens the entire community,” State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement. Elmhurst Police praised the resident who called 911 and credited quick action with helping to secure the arrest.
Allmon’s next court appearance is scheduled for October 20, 2025, before Judge Mia McPherson.
