Bloomingdale, IL – A 14-year-old boy from Bloomingdale is facing felony charges after allegedly leading officers on a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle late Monday night.

According to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, the incident unfolded around 11:16 p.m. when Bloomingdale police located a 2015 Hyundai Elantra reported stolen. The car was allegedly being driven by the juvenile northbound on Glen Ellyn Road near Edgewater Drive. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver allegedly accelerated eastbound on Lake Street, reaching speeds above 80 mph.

The vehicle reportedly drove through a red light, continued southbound on Rohwling Road, and returned to Army Trail Road, where officers deployed spike strips. Authorities say the car crashed after hitting the strips and attempting to turn onto Walter Street. The juvenile then allegedly fled on foot but was taken into custody shortly afterward following a brief pursuit.

No bystanders or officers were injured during the chase. Both the juvenile and another occupant in the vehicle were treated at a nearby hospital for minor injuries.

The teen is charged with one count of Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle (Class 2 Felony) and one count of Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding a Police Officer (Class 4 Felony). He is being held in custody until his next court appearance.

Officials stressed the danger posed by high-speed pursuits, especially when involving minors. The teen is scheduled to appear in court Monday, August 4, 2025, before Judge Chantelle Porter.
