Downers Grove, IL – A Chicago man on parole has been sentenced to 38 years in prison for two same-day armed robberies at gas stations in DuPage County. Robert Howard, 31, pleaded guilty to robbing a Speedway in Downers Grove and a 7-Eleven in Oakbrook Terrace on June 15, 2021.
According to DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin, Howard entered the Speedway on Fairview Avenue and robbed the store at gunpoint, threatening the clerk before fleeing with cash and cigarettes. Hours later, Howard struck again, robbing the 7-Eleven on 14th Street and stealing around $400.
Howard, who had been on parole for less than seven months, was arrested after a brief chase by police on June 21, 2021. A loaded handgun matching the description from both robberies was found in his possession.
Howard’s extensive criminal history made him eligible for an extended prison term. Berlin emphasized the importance of public safety and commended local law enforcement for their swift action, ensuring a lengthy sentence for Howard’s repeated offenses.
