Duluth, Minnesota – Strong northeast winds and powerful waves are expected to batter Lake Superior’s shoreline Friday, prompting a beach hazard warning across Duluth and Wisconsin Point beaches. Swimmers are urged to stay out of the water, with dangerous rip currents and wave action making conditions unsafe throughout the day.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, the Beach Hazards Statement remains in effect from 10 a.m. to Friday evening, with the strongest impacts likely mid-afternoon. Waves could sweep even strong swimmers away from shore. Meanwhile, 1 to 3 inches of rainfall may soak Highway 2 and surrounding areas, raising concerns for localized flooding.

Heavy showers are expected mainly before 6 p.m. Friday, with gusty northeast winds up to 20 mph. Temperatures will remain in the low 50s, adding to the raw conditions across northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin.

Looking ahead to Father’s Day weekend, Saturday brings off-and-on showers, especially after 1 p.m., with cooler highs in the mid-50s. Sunday will be drier and more pleasant, with a high near 63°F under partly sunny skies—ideal for outdoor celebrations.

Thunderstorms return late Sunday night into Monday, though warmer temps in the low 70s may offer some relief before the next system moves through.

Warnings remain in effect through Friday evening, and additional statements may be issued depending on rainfall totals and changing wind patterns.
